What Happened to Smartcric
- Times Content Limited, which runs Willow TV and held US rights to the Indian Premier League, sued smartcric.com and sister site crickethdlive.com in a Texas federal court.
- The court ordered service providers to take smartcric.com, smartcric.eu and the crickethdlive domains offline until the end of the 2017 IPL on 22 May; the operator moved to smartcric.be, which was suspended within a day.
- In Viacom18 Media v. live.smartcric.com & Ors., the Delhi High Court ordered on 21 September that 12 websites be blocked, and India's Department of Telecommunications passed the order to ISPs on 5 October.
- smartcric.click was seized in a follow-up round of the US 'Operation Offsides' World Cup crackdown.
Is Smartcric Safe?
No guarantee, and the odds are against you. Smartcric has a record of jumping domains overnight: in 2017 the operator moved to smartcric.be as soon as a US court took the main site offline, and that address lasted about a day. Each jump sends fans searching for the new Smartcric, and the results fill up with pages nobody can trace, smartcric.pro and smartcric.ch among them today.
Those pages earn from ads they don't vet. Expect redirects and extra tabs on each tap, play buttons that aren't real, adult (18+) ads and nudges to add an app or a browser add-on. Worse ones spread malware, abuse browser notifications or ask for card or ID details to "verify" you.
