Watching the IPL from India and Abroad in 2027
The Indian Premier League is the most-watched Twenty20 competition in the world. Ten franchises play a league stage from late March into May, each team plays 14 games, and the top four go into a four-match playoff: Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the final, usually around the end of May. Evening games start at 7:30pm in India, and double-header days add an afternoon match at 3:30pm.
At home, Star Sports has the TV rights and JioHotstar streams every match. The 2027 season is the last one in the rights cycle that began in 2023, so a new deal will cover the IPL from 2028 onwards.
Outside India, the IPL reaches fewer countries than international cricket, and its main markets follow the South Asian communities abroad. Willow and Cricbuzz show it in the US and Canada, Sky Sports and NOW in Britain and Ireland, Fox Sports and Kayo Sports for Australians, and Sky Sport in New Zealand. Across Africa it is a SuperSport event, streamed on DStv Stream, and Cricbuzz streams the matches to Gulf, Egyptian and Moroccan viewers. The only free-to-air broadcaster on our list is Sri Lanka's TV Supreme.
For fans abroad, a 7:30pm start in Mumbai is 3pm in London, 10am in New York, 6pm in Dubai and around midnight in Sydney, so the league is easiest to follow live from Europe, Africa and the Gulf.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I watch the IPL in India?
Star Sports shows the IPL on TV across India, and JioHotstar streams every match on mobile, laptop and television screens. That arrangement is a five-season deal that started in 2023, so 2027 is the final year before a new IPL rights contract takes over.
How can I watch the IPL in the USA?
Willow shows the IPL on TV in the US, and Cricbuzz streams it. The 7:30pm Indian start is 10am on the East Coast and 7am in California, so weekday games land during work hours, and afternoon double-header games begin at 6am Eastern.
What channel is the IPL on in the UK?
In Britain and Ireland the IPL belongs to Sky Sports, and NOW is the dish-free way to stream Sky's IPL coverage. Evening games in India begin at 3pm UK time, so weekend IPL matches fit easily into a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Is the IPL free to watch anywhere?
Very rarely. TV Supreme in Sri Lanka is the one free-to-air channel on our list for the IPL. Everywhere else, the league is on JioHotstar and Star Sports in India or on channels such as Willow, Sky Sports, Fox Sports and SuperSport abroad.
Can I watch the IPL in Australia?
Yes. Fox Sports shows the IPL in Australia and Kayo Sports streams it. Evening games in India start around midnight on the east coast, so many Australian fans catch the afternoon double-headers instead, which begin at 8pm Sydney time.
How do fans in Dubai and the Gulf watch the IPL?
Cricbuzz is the IPL's streaming home in the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco. The evening game starts at 6pm in Dubai and 5pm in Riyadh, convenient hours for the large South Asian community working across the Gulf.
Is the IPL on TV in Nigeria, Kenya or South Africa?
SuperSport televises the IPL to South African, Nigerian and Kenyan fans, and DStv Stream puts every game online. Johannesburg runs three and a half hours behind Mumbai, so the evening games start at 4pm there; Lagos is an hour earlier and Nairobi an hour later.
When does the IPL season start?
The IPL usually starts in the second half of March and finishes around the end of May. Each team plays 14 league games before the top four reach the playoffs. The exact 2027 dates are set by the BCCI closer to the season, along with the full fixture list.
Can I watch the IPL on a betting site?
In some countries, yes. bet365 and 1xBet both list cricket among the sports they stream, and the bet-and-watch player picks the bookmakers that serve your country. With one of them, place a bet and watch IPL matches without limits. 18+. Our betting sites page compares the options.
How can I watch JioHotstar's IPL coverage outside India?
JioHotstar's IPL streams are meant for viewers in India, so they won't play on a trip abroad. Connect a VPN to an Indian server and your account works as usual; NordVPN works with Hotstar and keeps fast T20 action smooth on a big screen.
