No. The Mobdro app stopped working in February 2021 without a word to its users, and its current and older domains, mobdro.bz among them, went offline at the same moment. A month later Europol and Eurojust explained why: police in Spain and Andorra had arrested four people, blocked 20 domains and servers and frozen bank accounts. Spain also cut off the app's football streams and stopped it being distributed through Spain, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
Anything you find under the name today is someone else's. Addresses such as mobdro.to, mobdro.com and mobdro.sc, and download sites like mobdrovip.com, still carry the logo, and none has been shown to come from the original developers. What Happened to Mobdro
- Spanish National Police opened an investigation after complaints from ACE, the Premier League and LaLiga, among others.
- A Digital Citizens Alliance report said the app sent the user's Wi-Fi name and password to an external server after a forced update.
- Notices sent to Google on behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India targeted mobdro.bz, but Google did not remove it.
- Mobdro stopped working without any announcement, and its current and older domains went offline.
- Eurojust announced that Spanish authorities had blocked the app's football streams and that it could no longer be distributed via Spain, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
- Europol reported four arrests in Spain and Andorra, four court orders to take down domains, 20 domains and servers blocked and bank accounts frozen.
Is Mobdro Safe?
No, and it wasn't safe even when it was real. Researchers and investigators found the original app doing things its users never saw:
- sending the Wi-Fi network name and password to an outside server after a forced update, according to a 2019 Digital Citizens Alliance report
- selling user information to a company linked to botnet and DDoS attacks, according to Europol
- turning users who switched off ads into peers on the Luminati proxy network, so other people's traffic ran through their connection
Today's Mobdro APKs are worse odds: hacked builds from unknown sites, sideloaded outside any app store, with wide access to the phone or box they land on. They can carry malware, flood the screen with ads, or ask for card details to unlock a 'premium' version. If one is installed, delete it, change your Wi-Fi password and any passwords used on that device, and factory-reset an Android box if the ads keep coming back.
