Who Shows the Six Nations, From London to Lagos
The Six Nations is the oldest international championship in rugby, with roots in the Home Nations Championship first played in 1883. England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales meet once each over five rounds in February and March, 15 matches in all, and the side with home advantage in each fixture changes from one year to the next. Italy joined in 2000, turning the Five Nations into six.
In its home countries the championship is mostly free to air. All 15 games reach British viewers on ITV or the BBC, Irish fans get every match from RTÉ and Virgin Media Television, France Télévisions shows it in France, and in Germany it goes out on ProSieben MAXX and the Joyn app. Italy's broadcaster for 2027 has not been announced yet.
Further afield, a handful of deals reach most supporters. Peacock streams the championship in the United States and Stan Sport in Australia, while New Zealand viewers turn to Sky Sport. SuperSport and DStv Stream cover the African continent, ESPN and Disney+ handle Latin America, STARZPLAY takes the Middle East, and Premier Sports streams the games in India and much of Southeast Asia.
Later in 2027 the focus moves to Australia for the Rugby World Cup, and the broadcaster line-up there is different in several countries, the US and the UK included.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the 2027 Six Nations?
February and March 2027. The championship always fills those weeks: five rounds spread over about seven weekends, with two rest weekends built in. Most games are on Saturdays, with the odd Friday-night match and a few Sunday afternoon kick-offs, and the closing round is traditionally one Saturday with all three games played back to back.
Is the Six Nations free to watch in the UK?
Yes, every match. ITV shows 10 games, including all five of England's, and the BBC shows the remaining five. ITVX and BBC iPlayer stream them live, STV carries the ITV games across much of Scotland, and S4C broadcasts the Wales matches with Welsh commentary.
How can I watch the Six Nations in Ireland?
On free TV, with no subscription needed. RTÉ and Virgin Media Television split the fixtures and together show all 15 live, Ireland's five included. RTÉ Player streams the RTÉ games, so you can follow them on a phone, a laptop or a smart TV.
Can I stream the Six Nations in the USA?
Yes, on Peacock, which holds the championship in our 2027 data. Most games fall in the American morning: a Saturday kick-off in the London afternoon starts mid-morning in New York and around dawn in Los Angeles, which leaves the rest of the weekend free.
What time do Six Nations games start for fans outside Europe?
Kick-offs are set for European afternoons and evenings, which suits Africa: an afternoon start in London is mid-afternoon in Lagos, later in the afternoon in Johannesburg and early evening in Nairobi. India watches in the evening and late at night. Australia and New Zealand get the rough end, with most games after midnight local time.
Where do fans in Africa watch the Six Nations?
On SuperSport and DStv Stream, from Johannesburg and Lagos to Nairobi, Accra, Kampala and Dar es Salaam. SuperSport shows the matches on DStv satellite, and DStv Stream puts the same channels on a phone or laptop, so a full Saturday of rugby can go with you.
Which app shows the Six Nations in Australia?
Stan Sport, the sports add-on to a Stan plan, streams the championship. Most games start in the small hours on the east coast, roughly between midnight and 7am. Across the Tasman, the championship is a Sky Sport event in New Zealand, and subscribers can stream it through the Sky Sport Now or Sky Go apps.
Is the Six Nations on free TV in France and Germany?
Yes, both countries show it without a subscription. France Télévisions carries the championship in France, and in Germany ProSieben MAXX has it on TV while the Joyn app streams the same matches for free. Spain and Portugal differ: there the games sit on pay TV, with Movistar Plus+ and Sport TV.
What do the Grand Slam and Triple Crown mean?
A Grand Slam is winning all five matches in one championship. The Triple Crown goes to England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales when one of them beats the other three. A win earns four points and a draw two, with a bonus point for four tries or for losing by seven or fewer, and a Grand Slam side gets three extra points so it always finishes first. Last place takes the Wooden Spoon.
Can I watch ITVX or BBC iPlayer outside the UK?
Only with a VPN. Both apps play inside the UK and nowhere else, so a British fan away for work or on holiday sees an error message. Connect the VPN to a UK server and the apps open as usual, live games included. Our VPN comparison lines up six providers that handle sport streams.
